BONDED celebrates the bond between humans and nature.
Bart has positioned the man and the bird back to back.
Their connection is so intimate they share a head!
One cannot exist without the other.
Soaring above the carving like a flag, is an ivory tusk.
Bart has carved the face of a man, a beluga whale, 2 walruses and a majestic eagle into the tusk.
Each carving could stand alone as a majestic piece.
This spectacular tusk is a totem which reminds us of the vastness of the Canadian Arctic and its unique people, and animals, birds, and whales.
Bart Hanna is an internationally renowned Elite Inuit Master Carver.
In 2019, the Government of Canada commissioned Bart to carve a sculpture to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Nunavut.
The permanent home of "Sedna with Friends" is in the House of Commons foyer in the Centre Block.
The Marble colour is fresh.
Its simplicity and rich gray accents allow the pageantry of the man's face and the bird's head to soar.
You are unlikely to see a piece like this again.
Unless it comes from Bart Hanna.
