BLUE BOY is an outstanding proud Canada goose carving from Cape Dorset.
I met with Johnysa Mathewsie when I visited recently.
I am a huge fan of Johynsa.
His art is extraordinary,
His birds and Orcas fly off the shelves in our Gallery.
Johnysa's details and lines are tight and crisp on his sculptures.
This meticulous carving is ABSOLUTELY necessary when you are mixing white stone with a dark colour. eg neck and face of the Canada Goose and body and face of the Orcas.
The accuracy of these lines separate the men from the boys.
Blue Boy's turquoise blue colour is fresh and unexpected for a Canada Goose.
The stone is silky smooth.
